For energy companies, district heating utilities and heat users
Year-round, low-carbon heat. Take only what you need.
A data centre makes far more heat than a local network can use, every hour of the year. Energy companies take the share that replaces fuel in their network; drying, greenhouse, fish-farming and industrial companies take steady heat for production. The Heat Hub balances the rest.
What you get
Data centre waste heat for your network and production
- 1
Cheaper, cleaner base load
Heat pumps lift ≈ 50 °C data centre heat to district heating temperatures and replace fuel-based production.
- 2
No obligation to take it all
You contract only the heat your network needs. The Heat Hub uses the rest, including the summer surplus, in drying, greenhouses and industry.
- 3
Steady heat for production
Drying, greenhouse, fish-farming and industrial companies get year-round heat at 20–55 °C, used directly and priced against their current alternative.
What you receive
What the pre-study shows you
- A monthly heat balance against your network's demand and temperatures
- The share your network can take, month by month
- Other heat users within about 30 km for the rest
- Recommended next steps: heat pump concept, agreements and funding
Cost with energy aid
- Pre-study, excl. VAT
- €30,000
- Energy aid 40%
- − €12,000
- Applicant's share
- €18,000
An energy company that has joined the energy efficiency agreement may apply for 40% energy aid for the study. Business Finland grants energy aid to projects with eligible costs of up to EUR 5 million; larger projects are decided by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. For example, Lappeenrannan Lämpövoima received EUR 2.66 million from the ministry in 2024 for a 24 MW heat pump plant using data centre waste heat. Eligibility is confirmed with Business Finland before applying.
Next steps
Moving forward is simple
- 01
30-minute call
We go through your network or your heat need, and the data centre project in your area.
- 02
Proposal with the municipality
We scope the study with the municipality or development company, and Avans prepares the energy aid application for you.
- 03
Four-week study
Work starts from the funding decision.
FAQ
Questions energy companies and heat users ask
Does data centre heat compete with our own production?
It can replace fuel-based production where that makes sense for you. You decide how much you contract; the Heat Hub is designed so that the rest is used elsewhere, not pushed onto your network.
At what temperature does the heat come?
About 55 °C supply and 30–32 °C return from liquid-cooled data centres. Direct uses work at this level; for district heating, heat pumps lift the temperature.
We are a heat user. How do we get heat from a Heat Hub?
Tell us your heat need: temperature, annual amount and seasonal profile. We add you to the heat user register of the nearest planned Hub and contact you when a site is developed. Heat is priced against your current alternative, and registering your interest is free.
